Well I am buying a quad within the next 2 months (I am hoping).. So I just want to find out where the riding area are in the Durham and surrounding area and Peterborough and surround area...

I live in Whitby and Summer Vacation (trailer park) in Ennismore (Near Bridgenorth and Peterborough)... So I am looking for trails and riding areas that are close to where I live and vacation.. I wanna know all the places regardless of if it is crown land or paid trails..

I know there is Ganaraska and I know the Raglan and Burkton Pits are close.. Now the Pit's I don't know if you can use that anymore or not..

Anyone have a list of places to go??

Well I guess in the Durham area Ganaraska is the only Legal Trail Riding Area..

So your not allowed to drive on crown land or anything??

Sometimes I wish I lived somewhere other then the Durham Region.... lol

Here is the Local group;

http://www.haliburtonatv.com/

They have some excellent trails- BUT- I found that they were poorly marked.

My visit to them was two years ago - I hope they have been improved since then.

Happy Trails.

They are marked terribly!!!!! We have rode them a few times and about a 75 km run,we saw 1 sign and it was in a bush, the only reason I saw it was because I went to the bush to take a leak, and their maps suck,to say the least, they fall apart in your hands!!!!

I have to agree with Al on the signage or lack thereof and the single use maps but the trails are cool if you can find them.

WOW!

It's Nice to know that I wasn't the only one having a couple of bad days. wink

One of the things that REALLY bother me about the HATV - was that their advertising makes a BIG Deal out of having the best marked trails in Ontario... I was (almost) lost four hours into a trail without having seen a marker for the last two hours... I did find my way out... but what a poor experiance.

SO; I wrote to the HATV, to tell them my opinion about the sign issue... I sent the letter to EVERY address on their web site (8-10 names)- two years later I have not received a single reply.

They do have some GREAT trails, but you'd better have a tour guide with you!

IMHO

Yep the signage does suck, but the trails are very good. Hope to get and ride there again soon. HATVA guys should take note of what the ofsc (snowmobile trail maps) uses for map material instead of toilet paper material for a map....

We don't have canopys to bang off trees as we bounce side to side.

There is always private property, or try googling in your area for winter riding availability. Good thing is, spring is practically here, +15 all week, and that will open alot more locations.

There really isnt anywhere that I am aware of that has trails open for atv`s in the winter, unless you go to private land,or crownland, but then you have to fight your way through a few feet of snow depending on where you are,as for riding in the peterbourgh area, drive north to Buckhorn and catch the trail there,5 ponts is the name I believe,or Bancroft,an hrs drive from peterbourgh, lots of options, like offroad said, google works great for finding trails to ride on.
